For prospective PhD students
EDITAL PROGRAMA DE PÓS-GRADUAÇÃO EM QUÍMICA- INGRESSO 2025.1
Hi, My name Professor Vladimir Zaitsev.
You can find comprehensive information about my research on
my webpage as well
as from other sources, such as
ResearchGate
or Orcid.
Generally speaking I work in preparation, characterisation
and application of nanosized and nanostructural materials.
It is interdestiplinary area therefore I need students with wide background.
Mainly I am looking for PhD students fro different countries.
Mainly master degree can annly, but bachelors
with publications can also apply for PhD program in
PUC-Rio. I can also accept biochemists with good background of chemistry.
First, about the University where I work.
Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (http://www.puc-rio.br/english) is one of the best university in Latin America (3rd place).
Because of strong interaction with industry chemistry department is very good
equipped with analytical instruments (http://www.qui.puc-rio.br/pesquisa/infraestrutura/).
It has very good location with safe environment and close to the ocean and
Copacabana.
The university accept MS and PhD students two times a year (June and November,
see
http://www.puc-rio.br/english/departaments/ccpg/). Chemistry department can get each time up to 10 students and first
2-5 students will receive financial support (2200 - 2800 R$).
To be accepted the candidates have to pass entrance exam (general with one
question in each specialisation: inorganic, analytical, organic and physical
chemistry). For foreign students the exam will be organised over Internet (Moodle). For those who passed exam
there will be interview over skype with general questions (for verification of
your language abilities and motivation). The registration for MS and PhD
programs is online (see
http://www.puc-rio.br/english/departaments/ccpg/chemistry.html) and shall be
made in advance.
The university no cover transportation and accomodation.
PhD program is for four years and includes education and
research (similar to USA). Therefore students will need to study portuguese
(lectures in portuguese). The classes of portuguese are included to PhD
curriculum.
At the end of the PhD program student have to present
dissertation (in English or in Portuguese) and have at least one article
accepted in peer-review journal).
Concerning your research project. Since I have several research projects, it depends on your ability and qualification.
For PhD program, I am looking for motivated students who have the interest to work in nanochemistry, analytical chemistry, and chemistry of advanced materials.
The student will be involved in one of the research projects presented on
this page.
